Lawrence Elliot

The man you are is not fixed.

For the man who suspects he is capable of more.

Valentin de Boulogne, Samson, 1630-31 (detail). Cleveland Museum of Art.

Suffering

Men suffer when their actions do not reliably alter the world.

Jusepe de Ribera, The Martyrdom of Saint Bartholomew, 1634 (detail). National Gallery of Art.

The work

I create men who bend reality to their will.

Dirck van Baburen, Prometheus Being Chained by Vulcan, 1623 (detail). Rijksmuseum.

The deficit

We are living through a masculine deficit.

  1. Record comfort. Record apathy.
  2. Will, drive and sovereignty are in collapse.
  3. You already know what to do. You do not do it.

Caravaggio, The Denial of Saint Peter, 1610 (detail). The Met.

The lie

You were taught to stay closed.

  1. Predictable men are easy to employ, insure, price and govern.
  2. Maturity is the name given to a man who can no longer change.
  3. Self-acceptance is a sedative.

Gerrit van Honthorst, Samson and Delilah, c. 1616 (detail). Cleveland Museum of Art.

Doctrine

Sovereignty is authority over the terms of your own change.

Open.

Break the lock on who you are.

Imprint.

Act as the man you chose. Only action imprints.

Close.

Set the new form. Live in it until it too needs breaking.

Hendrick ter Brugghen, Saint Jerome, c. 1621 (detail). Cleveland Museum of Art.

What changes

You enter as one man. You leave as another.

Body
Read across a room.
Mind
Drive on command.
Presence
Felt before you speak.
Women
Dating without the campaign.
Work
The move you have postponed.

Georges de La Tour, Saint Peter Repentant, 1645 (detail). Cleveland Museum of Art.

Results

The change shows.

    Before
Ben after six months, standing in the same room.

He is natural. This involved no pharmacological intervention.

  2. James before coaching, flexing in his living room.
    Before
James after coaching, on a terrace in the hills, wearing a hat.
    After

His training, food and pharmacology were his own decisions.

  3. Berke before coaching, standing in a bathroom.
    Before
Berke after six months, walking on a beach promenade.
    After

Berke, 24. From fat, lethargic larper to international playboy.

His training, food and pharmacology were his own decisions.
